Does this sound like you ?

  • A harsh inner voice criticising almost everything you do
  • You compare yourself to other people and come up short
  • You say yes when you really mean no, then feel drained or resentful
  • You put things off because you're afraid of getting them wrong
  • You play down your achievements and dread being 'found out'
  • You avoid speaking up, trying new things or being seen.
  • You know your worth in theory, but you can't feel it!

Why telling yourself to be more confident doesn't work

The beliefs we hold about ourselves are usually formed early, and then repeated for years. 'I'm not good enough' can grow out of experiences, comments or pressure we barely remember. Once it's there, your mind goes looking for the evidence that it's true.

The inner critic is often trying to protect you, by keeping you safe from rejection, embarrassment or failure. The price is that it keeps you small.

Because these beliefs sit below your logical thinking, knowing that you're capable often isn't enough to change how you feel. That's why this work goes deeper than positive thinking.

How I help

My work combines psychology, an understanding of the nervous system, and hypnotherapy. Hypnosis is a deeply relaxed focused state in which you stay aware and in control. It gives you a calm space to loosen old beliefs and practice a kinder, steadier way of seeing yourself.

Between sessions, coaching gives you practical tools for everyday life. Together we will:

  • Tame the inner critic and respond to self doubt differently.
  • Understand where your beliefs about yourself came from.
  • Move out of procrastination and perfectionism.
  • Set boundaries and say no without guilt.
  • Build courage and confidence in small manageable steps.

Where it shows up

Low confidence rarely stays in one place. People often come to me when it's affecting:

  • Work: speaking up, presenting, interviews, asking for what you deserve.
  • Relationships: people-pleasing, boundaries, fear of conflict or rejection.
  • Food: self-criticism and emotional eating (see weight loss)
  • Worry: constant self doubt and over thinking (see anxiety)
  • Sports & Performance: nerves and fear of geting it wrong when it matters (see sports performance)

What to expect

  1. A free discovery call (15-30 mins), we talk by phone about what you'd like to change, and you can ask me anything. There's no pressure to book.
  2. Your sessions. Tailored to you, with hypnotherapy and coaching working together. This is usually through a programme of 3 - 6 sessions, which will be decided prior to starting.
  3. Practice between sessions. Short practical tools for the moments when self-doubt shows up.

Sessions are in my clinic in Southwell, or online by zoom from wherever you are.

About Jacquie

Hello, I'm Jacquie, a clinical hypnotherapist with an MSc in Psychology. Hypnotherapy found me when I needed it, and it gave my mind space and new perspectives. Thats what I now offer my clients.

What Sarah had to say

I first came to see Jacquie out of general interest in the process of hypnosis, having never previously experienced hypnosis I did not know what to expect of the session. I asked Jacquie to help me with a confidence issue, something I had been struggling with for the past 5 years. The session was really enjoyable and completely relaxing. I felt uninhibited by my own anxieties but at no time out of my own mental control. I left feeling refreshed, calm and energised enough to begin taking control over my own negative mental processes.

Sarahs' story continued

Jacquie showed me how to apply various hypnotic and relaxation techniques to my own life. Through these techniques I have been able to retrain my brain not to automatically make negative mental associations, thus lessening my anxiety. I credit Jacquie and hypnosis with the beginning of my route towards a calmer, happier and more confident self. I would absolutely recommend this process to anyone.

Questions people ask

What's the difference between confidence and self esteem?

Confidence is trusting your ability to do something. Self esteem is how you feel about yourself as a person. They're linked, and I work with both.

Will I become a different person? No, the aim is to quieten whats been getting in the way, so more of who you already are can show up.

What if my low confidence comes with low mood? If you've felt persistently low, hopeless, or had thoughts of harming yourself please talk to your GP. Hypnotherapy isn't a substitute for medical care, and I'll tell you if I think you need other support.

How many sessions will I need? It depends on you and what you want to change, we'll talk it through on the free call.

Ready to talk it through
