Does this sound like you?

  • A drink is how you unwind, switch off or cope with the day
  • You tell yourself you'll cut down, and it doesn't last
  • Once you start you drink more than you meant to
  • Evenings, stress or certain people make it hard to say no
  • You feel guilty or low the next day, and the cycle repeats
  • You'd like to change, but you're not sure you can
  • You'd rather not make a big deal of it or put a label on yourself

If that's you, you're not weak and you're not alone. Drinking is usually doing a job for you, and once we understand that job, it can change.

Why it's so hard to cut down

For many people, alcohol does something, it relaxes you, takes the edge off anxiety, marks the end of the working day, or helps you switch off. Over time that becomes automatic, tied to particular times, places, people and feelings.

Willpower struggles against that, because the habit runs below your conscious thinking. Alcohol can also disturb your sleep and mood, which can make the stress you were drinking to escape feel worse, and the loop continues.

Thats why 'just drink less' so often doesn't hold. lasting change means understanding what the drink is doing for you, and finding another way to get it.

How I help

My work combines psychology, an understanding of the nervous system, and hypnotherapy. Hypnosis is a deeply relaxed, focused state in which you stay aware and in control. It gives you a calm space to loosen an automatic habit and practice new responses.

Between sessions, coaching gives you practical tools for the moments that matter.

Together we will:

  • Understand what drinking does for you, and what you want instead.
  • Find other ways to relax, switch off and reward yourself
  • Work with triggers and cravings, so they lose their grip
  • Quieten the guilt and the inner critic that often keep the cycle going
  • Support the goal that's right for you, whether that's cutting down or stopping.

Please read first

If you drink heavily every day, or you feel shaky, sweaty, very anxious or unwell when you go without alcohol, please don't stop suddenly. Stopping can be dangerous, and you should speak to your GP or specialist alcohol service first.

Hypnotherapy isn't a medical treatment for alcohol dependance. I'm happy to work alongside medical support, never instead of it.

Useful places to start: your GP, drinkaware, and the NHYS website. If you feel unsafe or in a crisis, call NHS 111, or 999 in an emergency. Samaritans are free on 116 123, 24 hours a day.

What to expect

  1. A free discovery (15-30 minutes). We talk by phone about what's going on and what you'd like to change, and you can ask me anything. There's no pressure, ande no judgement.
  2. A short intake form, so that I can find pout a little more about you, and advise safely.
  3. Your sessions. Tailored to you, with hypnotherapy and coaching working together. The number of sessions required will be decided together during the discovery call.

Everything you tell me is confidential. Sessions are in my clinic in Southwell, or online by zoom from the privacy of your own home.
